Manchester United weighing up Benjamin Sesko transfer after John Murtough meeting with his agent, as Salzburg prepare to offload him.
Following his impressive performance against Liverpool in midweek, Benjamin Sesko was already on Manchester United’s radar as they look to bolster their assault.
The agent of RB Salzburg attacker Benjamin Sesko was seen by Manchester United football director John Murtough last week.
According to reports, Murtough met Sesko’s agent, Elvis Basanovic, last Wednesday to discuss the prospect of a transfer.
The Slovenian international, Sesko, 19, scored the game-winning goal in Salzburg’s 1-0 friendly victory over Liverpool on Wednesday, and Basanovic is working to create a market for him. Sesko has a deal with Salzburg through 2026.
United are looking to recruit at least one, ideally two, attacking players. The 20-year-old Brian Brobbey, who spent last season on loan at Ajax playing under manager Erik ten Hag, was approached by United. However, the Dutchman departed RB Leipzig for Ajax permanently earlier this month.
Given that Sebastian Haller, Ryan Gravenberch, and Lisandro Martinez have already been sold by Dutch champions Ajax, who value Brazilian Antony at €80 million, coach Alfred Schreuder has stated that he expects the player to remain.
Ten Hag emphasized that United needed “additional choices” in their roster two days after Murtough and Basanovic had a meeting, as they were still lacking in two priority targets. Frenkie de Jong, a midfielder for Barcelona, has been the subject of the club’s pursuit for twelve weeks.
We are quite pleased with the signing of [Christian] Eriksen for the midfield position, according to Ten Hag. “And yes, I am also quite pleased with how well our offensive and midfield units are now performing.
But I also know that there are a lot of games this season and the World Cup, so we need more choices where you have a solid team. But it’s not only about the team; you need a good squad to obtain the correct results at the conclusion of the season.
“As a result, the squad needs to be strengthened even more. We are searching, but we also need the appropriate players.
“Undoubtedly, there is a reason why you need more offensive choices in some games. The season is quite long, but we still have time to fill that in, so I believe it’s essential if you want to succeed.”
Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Martial are expected to make their Premier League debuts against Brighton the following Sunday, according to Ten Hag, while Cristiano Ronaldo might play in United’s friendly against Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Anthony Elanga is the only veteran team member available to Ten Hag in the United attack beyond that group of four. Last season, Facundo Pellistri, Amad, and Chong were all on loans; all three could be moved before the transfer window closes on September 1.
