Manchester United were interested in signing 31-year-old French and Barcelona forward in the summer.
The Athletic claims that during the summer transfer window earlier this year, Manchester United inquired about signing Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann, who is presently on loan at Atletico Madrid.
The 31-year-old Frenchman joined Barcelona in 2019 after leaving Atletico Madrid in a €120 million deal. He experienced a trying two years at Spotify Camp Nou, though, before coming back to the Civitas Metropolitano in the summer of 2016.
Griezmann signed a loan agreement with the Rojiblancos, with the club obligated to pay €40 million to make the move permanent. Barça and Atletico are currently at odds over the terms of the contract that must be met in order to exercise the permanent purchase option, though.
Meanwhile, it has now come to light that Manchester United inquired about the possibility of acquiring Griezmann during the summer transfer window.
During the summer, the future of Cristiano Ronaldo was in doubt, and the Red Devils were anxiously searching the market for a replacement forward. Additionally, it appears that they looked into signing Griezmann.

Other Premier League teams, besides Manchester United, explored the possibility of acquiring the France international.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup champion reportedly turned down offers at the time because he was focused on winning at Atletico Madrid, according to the article.
The Barcelona loanee, though, is reportedly becoming disillusioned with his circumstances at the Civitas Metropolitano. This season, Atletico Madrid has only used him for thirty minutes or less in order to avoid activating the buyout clause because they do not want to spend €40 million on him.
Griezmann may decide to leave Atletico Madrid as early as January, according to the source, as the situation does not appear to be getting better any time soon.
If such a situation arises, it will be intriguing to watch if Manchester United or the other Premier League suitors are willing to make another attempt to sign the 31-year-old forward.
