Manchester United’s Frenkie De Jong alternative joined Paris Saint-Germain on a five-year deal.
Renato Sanches joins PSG, a target for Manchester United
Renato Sanches, a midfielder who Manchester United is interested in, is expected to sign for PSG this offseason. In the event that a trade for Frenkie de Jong falls through this summer, the Red Devils had the Portuguese on their radar.
Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports reports (via Express) that United was keeping an eye on Sanches in addition to Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves. However, it appears that the Old Trafford team has lost one of its options.
The talented Portuguese midfielder joins Paris Saint-Germain and meets up with his former manager Christophe Galtier at Parc des Princes.
Sanches’ career has so far been a rollercoaster. The 24-year-old was regarded as one of the top young players in the world at the time and transferred from Benfica to Bayern Munich in 2016.
But representing the German Champions wasn’t always simple. Sanches subsequently made a loan transfer to Swansea for the 2017–18 season. But the 24-year-old found the Premier League to be too much.
Sanches’ relocation to LOSC Lille proved to be the catalyst for reviving his career. The 2020–21 season saw the Portuguese reclaim their reputation in France under Galtier. The 24-year-old was a vital component of Les Dogues and went on to win the Ligue 1 championship.
Currently, Man United are in need of a good box-to-box midfielder. Sanches possesses all the qualities to be a top-tier number eight, and Paul Pogba left the team at the conclusion of the previous season.
Currently, Scott and Fred McTominay are here. The pair served as our pivots for the duration of the previous season. Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes are more choices. But the number 10 position suits both of them better.
Man United is in danger of skipping out on summer roster upgrades. In order to make any progress on the De Jong front, we must first concentrate on other goals for the time being.
