Marseille president gives update on a possible Cristiano Ronaldo move in January after relationship breakdown with Ten Hag.
Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer a favorite of Manchester United, according to the president of Marseille.
Ronaldo was kicked out of the first-team roster by manager Erik ten Hag, and it looks like he will be leaving Old Trafford soon.
After declining to enter as a substitute in United’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham on Wednesday, the Portuguese superstar was benched.
Prior to the end of the game at Old Trafford, Ronaldo was spotted walking toward the tunnel. He apparently departed the stadium early.
According to The Athletic, Ronaldo and Ten Hag’s relationship has reached a “breaking point,” with the star eager to leave the organization and the Dutch manager “glad to let him go.”
Ronaldo tried to leave United for a Champions League team during the summer transfer window, but he was unable to leave Old Trafford. Ronaldo is a five-time winner of the Ballon d’Or.
After scoring just twice in 12 appearances for United this season, he is expected to have few alternatives in January.
And Pablo Longori, the president of Marseille, claims he has no plans to pursue the Portugal international.
Soccer is quite obvious. With a financial balance, you make due with the resources you have at your disposal, Longoria told RMC Sport.
“You must use every effort to improve outcomes and the team as a whole while maintaining financial stability. That will matter in 2022. We require a financially stable status.
“Ideas like that [the signing of Ronaldo], of great names, particular superstars, are distant from reality. We place a greater emphasis on team players who give strong individual performances that benefit the team.
We have a project where everyone must contribute to a group effort.
Ronaldo is currently working out by himself at United and won’t participate in Sunday’s Premier League match against Chelsea.
On Thursday, he posted a reflection on his actions on Instagram but refrained from apologizing to United and Ten Hag.
“I try to live and play with respect for my teammates, rivals, and coaches, as I have throughout my career. That remains the same. I haven’t changed, Ronaldo wrote.
“Since I’ve been playing elite football for the past 20 years, I’ve remained the same professional and person, and respect has always been a major factor in how I make decisions.
“I was a relatively young player when I started, so I always looked up to the older, more seasoned players as examples. Thus, in the future, I’ve always made an effort to serve as an example for the kids who developed in all the teams I’ve represented.
“Unfortunately, that’s not always possible, and occasionally we make mistakes because of how we’re feeling.
“At the moment, all I feel like I need to do is keep working hard at Carrington, help out my teammates, and be prepared for anything that may come up.
There is no option to give in to the pressure. It was never.
“We must stand as one as Manchester United. We’ll get back together soon.”
