Chelsea got defeated at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon and it’s a disappointing defeat as Manchester City looked set to win the premier league trophy.
Chelsea did really well in the first half and they had some lovely chances to take the lead, but the goal never came.
They’re things that we learnt from the game this afternoon and we’ll like to share our thoughts on it. Manchester City are now leading with 13 points clear and I don’t think that anybody can stop them right now.
Romelu Lukaku’s Mind Elsewhere
The performance from the Belgian forward is very poor and I don’t think that Chelsea will keep him, if he continues like this. Romelu Lukaku who joined Chelsea from Inter Milan this season, claimed that Inter Milan is still in his heart and that’s a bad comment from a professional player.
The Belgian forward told the fans that he will make it up to them, but he is yet to do so. I don’t think that Romelu Lukaku can convince the Chelsea fans after his performance this afternoon. He performed poorly and I think that another striker will do better.
Everyone thought that Romelu Lukaku will give Chelsea the lead after a lovely pass from his teammate, but the Belgian forward sent the ball to the wrong way. Ederson made an easy save in my own opinion. Romelu Lukaku still need to do better or he could go back to Inter Milan.
Players Rating
1. De Bruyne [9/10]: the Belgian midfielder is the best player on the pitch today. Kevin De Bruyne did extremely well against Chelsea today. He played with high intensity and he created lovely chances. I will rate him 9/10 because he gave his all against Chelsea and he scored the only goal.
It was a performance to remember for the Belgian midfielder. He captained Manchester City this afternoon and he performed as one. De Bruyne is a world class midfielder and I would say that he is the man of the match.
2. Kepa Arrizabalaga [7/10]: Edouard Mendy is currently on international duty, but I don’t think that Chelsea are missing him because of the recent form of Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Spanish goalkeeper made more than 4 saves against Manchester City.
He showed that he has what it takes to become the Chelsea first choice goalkeeper. Kepa Arrizabalaga kept Chelsea in the game from the first half and you could see how he saved Jack Grealish’s effort.
3. Rodri [6/10]: Rodri is the holding midfielder and he did extremely well against Chelsea. N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic couldn’t penetrate through the City midfield. I will rank him 6/10.
Match Analysis
Chelsea did really well in the first half, but the pressure from Manchester City in the second half was too much. Manchester City showed more desire to win the game in the second half and they did.
Chelsea failed to take the lead when Romelu Lukaku had that golden opportunity in the second half. It’s a bad afternoon for the blues, but they will be looking forward to the next game.
