Neymar Jr wanted to return back to Barcelona – Brazilian and Real Madrid legend revealed secrets about a possible move.
Even after his departure from FC Barcelona in the summer of 2017, Neymar was still a hot topic there. For the duration of his current five-year tenure at Paris Saint-Germain, he was even mentioned in connection with a move back to Camp Nou.
One such period occurred in 2019, when Barcelona sought Neymar’s return after trying to create the ideal attacking lineup. Their situation was not helped by Ousmane Dembele’s failure, which prompted the club to look into the prospect of re-signing the forward.
Neymar’s close friend and legendary Brazilian footballer Kaka has provided additional insight into the matter in an interview with BeIN Sports (via Mundo Deportivo), even going so far as to affirm the player’s intention to sign with Barcelona at the time.
“Neymar and I are good pals. He struggled at PSG and had issues with the supporters, therefore he desired to go back to Barcelona, according to Kaka.
The transfer, however, never happened since Neymar decided to stay at PSG. Even more, the attacker agreed to a contract extension in 2021 that would have kept him with the French team for an additional five years.

In the end, Barcelona bought Philippe Coutinho in early 2020 and Antoine Griezmann in 2019, two signings that proved to be catastrophes in and of themselves.
For his part, Neymar has had issues, particularly since Lionel Messi’s comeback last year. The Brazilian was even rumored to be leaving Parc des Princes this summer after losing favor with the team, mostly because of his ailments and a big salary.
Kaka, though, affirms that Neymar is now content at PSG and believes he will play a significant role in the team’s future.
Today he is content. He believes it to be a lengthy undertaking. He is content in Paris and at PSG, but the club is getting stronger and more cohesive every year as they work to win something as significant as the Champions League,” Kaka added.
