Pablo Gavi to make shock transfer decision as Barca close to signing Bernardo Silva from Manchester City this summer.
Gavi, a superstar for Barcelona, turned 18 yesterday, making Barcelona legally able to sign him to a five-year contract with the senior club. The tremendously gifted Spaniard did not even spend a significant amount of time with Barcelona Athletic before being a fixture with the first squad.
In fact, his renewal is currently all but formal. After Riqui Puig leaves, he’ll probably inherit Xavi’s illustrious #6 jersey and join Pedri in Barcelona’s starting midfield for the next few years.
The player, though, is not pleased with Barcelona’s pursuit of Bernardo Silva of Manchester City. According to Catalan news outlet Beteve, the adolescent phenom has already told Xavi that if the Catalans sign Bernardo this summer, he won’t be renewing their contract.
This summer, Barça already added Franck Kessie to their roster, greatly bolstering their depth. While Frenkie de Jong starts with Pedri and Sergio Busquets in the center of the field, he will likely face off against Gavi for the backup midfield position.
Although they are also candidates, Nico Gonzalez and Miralem Pjanic are anticipated to support Busquets in the lone pivot position.
Fairly speaking, Bernardo’s potential admission would radically change the organizational structure of this unit. Last season, he was among the top players in the globe, so he won’t have to compete for a starting position on the squad for at least the first year.
That instantly directs Gavi and Kessie’s additions to mostly replace Pedri. And if that report is accurate in any way, Gavi does not seem to like it.
The summer transfer window concludes on September 1st, and Gavi is willing to hold off on approving his extension until that time.
Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have been monitoring his situation this summer, but let see what happens.
