Paris Saint-Germain owners has decided to purchase Barcelona rival as they want to hurt the Spanish giant.
In order to hurt Barcelona and create a team that can “overshadow” the Blaugrana, Paris Saint-Germain intends to buy La Liga club RCD Espanyol, according to a report from Foot en Espagne (h/t SPORT).
After PSG acquired Neymar in 2017, the relationship between Barcelona and PSG has been sour for a while. Little changed as a result of Lionel Messi’s free transfer from Camp Nou to Parc des Princes last season.
Recent criticism of Barcelona’s finances has come from PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who most recently questioned if the Catalan giants’ operations during the summer were even legitimate.
According to the aforementioned source, the owners of the Ligue 1 champions are now allegedly plotting more measures to hurt Barcelona and unseat them as the top team in Catalonia.

To create a squad that “overshadows” the Blaugrana, PSG owner Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, now wants to acquire Barça’s regional rivals RCD Espanyol.
Rastar Group, a Chinese toy firm, has owned Espanyol since 2016, but the club is poorly administered. PSG wants to take advantage of this scenario by buying the La Liga squad and pouring money in remaking the team the best in Catalonia.
Al-Khelaifi has already been given the go-ahead to begin talks with Espanyol in order to explore the prospect of a takeover.
In June of last year, there were rumors that PSG wanted to purchase Espanyol. The aforementioned article has been updated to include the possibility of a purchase in the upcoming months as both parties have expressed an interest in beginning negotiations.
