Pep Guardiola makes decision clear about Joao Cancelo’s Real Madrid move next summer.
Joao Cancelo is one of several Manchester City players who are excelling but who don’t always receive the credit, whereas Erling Haaland is making headlines for all of his goals this season.
The 28-year-old can play both flanks very successfully (10 Premier League games at left-back, one game at right-back this season), works hard to win back the ball (2 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per PL game), and is very creative from defense (0.8 chances per PL game, 2 successful dribbles per PL game). It should come as no surprise that Real Madrid are keeping an eye on him.
Cancelo was mentioned as a potential transfer target by Real Madrid in late September, according to AS, but Guardiola would be crazy to allow such a vital player to depart. Cancelo has shown no desire to leave City and would be impossible to fully replace.

Real’s interest is natural, but City don’t need the cash from a prospective sale, and since Cancelo still has five more years on his deal, they aren’t forced to accept an offer.
City paid £60 million for the Portuguese international, who has subsequently made 200 appearances across all competitions while earning £80,000 per week until 2024.
According to AS, Real would need to spend €40–€50 million (£34.9–£43.6 million) before they had a chance to get Cancelo, but City won’t consider such meager offer. He’ll likely remain at the Etihad for the foreseeable future unless Real made a substantial offer.
