Rangnick revealed the three players that could have replaced Manchester United sensation Mason Greenwood, but the board turned down.
The German manager asked the board to sign a new forward in the winter, but at the end, what he got was a NO.
He revealed everything to the fans and he named one of the three possible forwards that could be at Old Trafford this season.
Rangnick on Greenwood: “The issue around Mason Greenwood was a disaster for everybody. It’s not good for himself, obviously, and for his family. But it also hasn’t been good for our club.”
Winter market declined: “Maybe they Manchester United didn’t want to do any winter business. Maybe we should have at least discussed it internally, because it might be necessary and important. It would have been short notice anyway but still, 48 hours is 48 hours.”
Rangnick: “The answer was ‘no’ and that was it [when he wanted to sign a striker in January]. I spoke to the board and told them ‘shouldn’t we at least speak & analyse and find if we can at least get a player, on loan or permanent deal?’. In the end the answer was ‘no’.”
Rangnick revealed the three players: “There were a few [options Man Utd were interested in January: Diaz, who is now at Liverpool; Alvarez, who will be at Manchester City in the summer; and Vlahovic, who at the time was still with Fiorentina.”
Rangnick short of squad: “We lost three strikers, long-term. We should have tried to sign a player in the 48 hours we had [in January, since we knew Mason Greenwood wouldn’t be available and Anthony Martial had already left on loan.”
