Real Madrid and Manchester United target grew up idolising Barcelona stars as he revealed.
Cody Gakpo recently shared his opinions with The Times in an interview about a variety of football-related topics. The interview’s high point came when he admitted to having a fascination with former Barcelona players.
The young star of PSV Eindhoven has recently become one of the most sought-after players in European football as a result of his consistently strong showings in the Eredivisie.
The Dutchman gained notoriety last season after contributing to 27 league goals. The attacker has contributed to 24 goals in all competitions this time around, continuing his excellent run of play.
Naturally, Gakpo’s performances have made him a target for a prospective transfer elsewhere. The player himself had expressed a desire to soon sign with a major club like Barcelona, and in the interview with The Times, he floated the notion once more by expressing his admiration for past Barça players.
“When I was younger, I had posters of PSV and Barcelona players like Afellay. I used to have posters of Ronaldinho and Eto’o when I was older. I was only a major PSV fan, but I enjoyed football teams that played well,” he admitted.
Gakpo had already expressed his passion for Barcelona, but his remarks coincide with rumors that the Catalans are considering a move for the PSV Eindhoven starlet.
Barcelona is still interested in bolstering its offensive unit, despite the uncertain futures of players like Memphis Depay and possibly Ousmane Dembele. Gakpo, while the Blaugrana are expected to encounter tough competition in their pursuit of the Dutchman, may prove to be a superb alternative in that regard.
