Real Madrid are in the race with Chelsea and Barcelona for the signing of Bayern Munich star.
Benjamin Pavard, a defender for Bayern Munich, appears destined to leave the club next summer as his relationship with manager Julian Nagelsmann is deteriorating. Along with other teams, Real Madrid and Barcelona are monitoring his situation in Bavaria.
The 26-year-old French international has reportedly decided to leave the German champions next summer when he enters the final year of his contract, according to SPORT.
Pavard was reportedly in talks with Bayern about an extension not long ago. However, following a disagreement on the practice field, his friendship with Nagelsmann has soured.
In addition, the Frenchman received a hefty fine after failing a breathalyzer test after a game, which is thought to have contributed to the breakdown of negotiations for a new contract.
In a recent interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Pavard also seemed to imply that his time in Germany had come to an end and that he was prepared to move in the summer. It appears to have alerted a number of elite clubs, including Real Madrid.
The Merengues’ interest is somewhat unexpected given that Carlo Ancelotti already has Lucas Vazquez and Dani Carvajal lined up at right back, and Vinicius Tobias is also a possibility, though the team has not yet decided whether to make him a permanent hire.
Apart from Real Madrid, Barcelona, who are in the market for a new right-back, are also said to be looking at Pavard, although the report specifies that the Catalans do not intend to enter a bidding war for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner.
Chelsea have had links with Pavard in the past as well and the 26-year-old could be seen as a long-term replacement for captain Cesar Azpilicueta who is well into his thirties. Apart from these three clubs, AC Milan are also said to be monitoring the Frenchman’s situation.
Although the report claims that Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, and Milan have all looked into the possibility of signing Pavard, as of right now, no firm offer has been made to the right-back.
It will be interesting to see whether Los Blancos are serious about signing the 2018 FIFA World Cup champion because he could potentially secure the right-back position for at least the next five years.
