Real Madrid’s Tchouameni sends a message to Jules Kounde following his surprising move to Barcelona in the last minutes.
Jules Kounde’s five-year, in-principle transfer from Sevilla to Barcelona has been officially confirmed, putting a conclusion to the third of Barcelona’s transfer sagas.
Officially, it depends on the player passing the medical exam and agreeing to the terms. The deal is reportedly worth around €50 million, plus a few million in add-ons and variables.
The club used the emoji of a blast and the emoji of a snake today on social media to give away the first clue in regard to Kounde’s celebration, which has been postponed for a few days now.
This comes immediately on the back of Kounde’s trip to Barcelona today, from Sevilla’s training camp in Portugal.
According to reports, Kounde was very close to signing with Chelsea for a sum of up to €65 million, but Barcelona scuttled the deal at Xavi’s request. Unsurprisingly, Gerard Romero broke the news first, stating that the transfer was completed 99 percent of the time on Saturday morning.
Sevillan sources vehemently refuted this, adamant that the midfielder will in fact transfer to Chelsea. But once everything was settled, Barça kicked the competition out, just like the Raphinha deal.
After Pablo Torre ($5 million), Andreas Christensen ($0), Franck Kessie ($0), Raphinha ($58 million), and Robert Lewandowski ($45 million), the 23-year-old center back is Barcelona’s sixth summer acquisition.
He joined Barcelona after speaking to Xavi, who persuaded him that his connection with Ronald Araujo may be one to watch, much like the other players did.
Kounde will remain in the Catalan city rather than accompany the club on its preseason tour of the United States. The club intends to showcase him on August 1st while he recovers from his most recent injury by creating an entirely new initial training schedule.
If everything goes according to plan, Kounde will make his unofficial Barcelona debut against Pumas UNAM in the Joan Gamper Trophy. The US trip concludes on July 31 in New York against the New York Red Bulls.
Kounde made 95 league games over the past three seasons, contributing three assists and five goals in the process. But more crucially, the 23-year-old has continued to shown excellent defensive ability that will benefit Barça throughout the most of the upcoming decade.
