Robert Lewandowski breaks down in tears after he scored first career world cup goal against Saudi Arabia.
In a very emotional moment, Robert Lewandowski’s first World Cup goal brought him to tears.
At the World Cup on Saturday, Poland defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0 thanks to the second goal scored by the Barcelona forward.
He capitalized on a Saudi error to score in the 82nd minute, and as he celebrated, he sobbed bitterly.
The 34-year-old cried as he joined his teammates in celebrating the goal because it meant so much to him.
The 34-year-old was without a goal for Poland at the most recent World Cup in 2018 and squandered a huge opportunity to get one in 2022 when he missed a penalty against Mexico in his team’s opening group match.
He did, however, make the most of his opportunity against Saudi Arabia today, capitalizing on Abdulelah Almalki’s slip-up on the edge of the box to make it 2-0 for Poland and all but seal a victory.
Lewandowski had previously contributed significantly to Poland’s first goal, providing a deft assist for Piotr Zielinski’s strike in the first half.
By scoring in the biggest football competition ever, Lewandowski, the all-time leading scorer for the Polish national team, finally got the monkey off his back. He had just scored his 77th goal for his country.
