Sevilla is interested in signing Memphis Depay in January with Manchester United in the race to sign the Dutch star.
Memphis Depay, a forward for Barcelona, is the object of intense interest from Sevilla, according to a SPORT report. The La Liga team, under the direction of sporting director Monchi, will make every effort to persuade him to sign on with them in January.
Barcelona wants to terminate Memphis in January to free up some space on the payroll. They will be able to sign players in the winter, which currently seems to be largely impossible.
Monchi has already made contact with Memphis’ entourage in an effort to arrange a transfer, but it won’t be simple.
The reason for this is that, according to recent reports, the Dutchman will only become a free agent and leave Barcelona in the winter if two requirements are satisfied.
First and foremost, he requests that the team pay the remaining balance of his contract, which expires in the summer of 2023. The former Manchester United player also wants to be the “leader” of the team and, more importantly, only wants to sign with a club competing in the Champions League.
Unfortunately, Sevilla has had a terrible season. They are currently in the relegation zone, occupying the 18th spot with only 11 points.
Despite all of his tactical skill, Julien Lopetegui was unable to maximize this side. Even after his dismissal, Sevilla’s offense has struggled, scoring just 13 goals in 14 games.
Given his demands, it seems extremely unlikely that they will be able to sign Memphis in January, but this is by no means the end of the story.
