Sign a new contract or retire? Real Madrid midfielder is set to make a huge decision as an offer is on the table for him.
Concerns about Toni Kroos’ future at Real Madrid have recently been raised. The midfielder’s current deal at Santiago Bernabeu expires at the end of the current campaign, thus it is unclear if he will stay on into 2023.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, is eager to extend the German’s contract because he has continued to compete at the highest level and can do so for at least another two or three years.
In an update on Kroos’ position, Fabrizio Romano (h/t Madrid Xtra) claims that Real Madrid has drafted a new contract offer for the former Bayern Munich sensation in an effort to tie him down to a new contract.
Real Madrid has a strict policy not to provide players over 30 more than a year-long contract extension, so even if the specifics of the new agreement have not been disclosed, it is likely to be a one-year extension.
The Whites are hoping that Kroos will stay at Santiago Bernabeu for another season since his leadership, wisdom, and poise in the middle of the park have been crucial to the team’s success over the previous eight years.
As one of the top midfielders in Europe, Kroos has played for Real Madrid in nearly 400 competitive games.
His continued presence in the midfield could go a long way in not only helping the club retain its success but also guiding younger individuals such as Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni.
However, if Kroos rejects the contract extension, the German is anticipated to retire rather than seek employment elsewhere. Shortly following the World Cup last year, the midfielder made a notable announcement that he was quitting international football.
