Two options on the table as Barcelona gives deadline on Sergio Busquets’ future at the club.
One of the most talked-about topics at Barcelona right now is Sergio Busquets, whose deal with the team is slated to expire in the summer of 2023. Despite the club being willing to extend him a new contract at Xavi’s request, he has not even hinted at one.
According to SPORT, he currently has two possibilities for the future phase of his career. One of them, albeit at a lower income, would be an extension of his contract at Barcelona. The club’s financial difficulties prevent them from supporting Busi’s present salary.
Therefore, after taking a number of pay cuts during and after the pandemic, the seasoned midfielder will need to take another one if he wants to stay at Barça.
His second option is to travel to the USA, where Inter Miami is eagerly awaiting his signature. There have been little to no updates on reports that the two parties have already reached an understanding.
Barcelona has given him until the end of the World Cup to decide so that the team may proceed appropriately in the following two transfer windows.
Several players have been mentioned in connection with a possible transfer to the Catalans. One of the front-runners is Ruben Neves of Wolverhampton Wanderers; Joan Laporta is a fan.
Xavi, on the other side, favors Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad. The Spaniard just agreed to a contract extension, although his €60 million release clause is still in place.
However, Jordi Cruyff, the director of Barcelona, gave an update on Busquets, saying, “The player, and no one else, will decide his future when his contract expires. He will give us preferential treatment. We’ll take a seat and observe his reaction.
