UCL manager makes huge claim comparing Ballon D’or winner Luka Modric to Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez.
Luka Modric has surpassed Barcelona luminaries Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta in terms of longevity at the top level of the game, according to Shakhtar Donetsk manager Igor Jovicevic, who was speaking to AS.
Due to their outstanding contributions to Barcelona’s and the Spanish national team’s success during their prime, Xavi and Iniesta are largely regarded as two of the best midfielders to ever play the game.
Modric has played a similar role for this Real Madrid squad and has been a major factor in the enormous success that Barça’s bitter rivals have attained over the previous few years.
Jovicevic has praised the Croatian international for his longevity, noting that even players like Xavi and Iniesta decided to retire from European football in their thirties. At 37, he is still one of the best midfielders in the game.

“No one has done what Modric is doing, playing at this level at his age with the best club in the world. For instance, neither Iniesta nor Xavi, who joined other clubs much earlier, did so, according to Jovicevic.
At the age of 35, Xavi departed Barcelona for Al-Sadd in 2015. Before putting his boots away, he played for the club for four years.
The club legend has returned to Spotify Camp Nou as manager and has led the team back to the top of the La Liga standings.
At the age of 34, Iniesta left European football and joined Vissel Kobe in Japan. He is currently a member of the team and serves as captain.
One of the best midfield trios in the history of the game was made up of Xavi, Iniesta, and Sergio Busquets. And given his achievements at Real Madrid, Modric has more than enough to merit a seat at the head table with the legends of Barcelona.
