Valencia left-back is expected to join Barcelona for free next summer, as Jordi Alba is set for Barca exit.
Jose Gaya of Valencia was always the target of Barcelona’s pursuit. The Catalan club made numerous attempts, but Barça was forced to go elsewhere when the Ches continued to play toughball, and on came a certain Marcos Alonso from Chelsea.
The left side of the defense is currently well-covered. The recent rise of Alejandro Balde is very alluring, and Jordi Alba and Alonso himself make good covers.
But the fact that Barcelona wants to hire someone who stands for a better future still remains a problem. Given that he has only been hired on a temporary basis, it is well acknowledged that Alonso is merely a backup plan in this regard.
In terms of Jordi Alba, the 33-year-old will become less relevant over the coming months, leaving Balde as the lone contender. This can indicate that the management is under pressure to find a speedy fix.
During the previous two transfer markets, Jose Gaya was taken into consideration for that, and the 27-year-old is still very much in line with Xavi’s vision.
According to Spanish media outlet SPORT, Barça has high expectations for the left-back from Pedreguer, especially given the fact that his current contract with Valencia expires on June 30, 2023, and he hasn’t showed any indications of extending it.

Therefore, it can be believed that if Barcelona decides to do the same, the situation with the current left-back overload may change. Since Alonso is only staying for a year, he will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign team beginning in January.
