Xavi Hernandez is set to rest key player against Elche today, ahead of the international break this month.
In a few hours, Barcelona will play Elche in La Liga, and Victor Mallo (h/t FCB World) is saying that manager Xavi Hernandez is likely to rest Pedri for the match.
The 19-year-old midfielder has been one of Barça’s greatest performers this year and gave an outstanding performance in this week’s loss to Bayern Munich.
In the seven games Barcelona has played this season across all competitions, Pedri has started six of them. He only missed the first few minutes of one game, the last league encounter versus Cadiz.
And it appears that Xavi will give his star midfielder another day off later today when the Blaugrana play Elche at Spotify Camp Nou. It ought to open the door for either Franck Kessie or Frenkie de Jong to start.

Given that the midfielder experienced some fitness issues throughout the course of the previous season, the decision to rest Pedri will be a wise one. The adolescent will participate again during the international break, this time as a representative of Spain.
